In Huaming subdistrict in Tianjin's Dongli district, 1994-born Hao Jingxuan is transforming local agriculture. Six years ago, he began with an experimental plot in Ninghe district, where he successfully grew large cherries, a variety rarely seen locally. This success led him to expand into large-scale cultivation in Huaming, bringing new energy to Dongli's agricultural scene.
Growing cherries locally is challenging due to high summer temperatures and heavy, saline-alkali soil. In 2018, Hao's trial of 40 cherry trees in Ninghe was a success, with all trees thriving and producing sweet cherries. In 2021, he established a large cherry orchard in Huaming, including nine medium-sized greenhouses, two large plastic tunnels, a professional cold storage facility, and a standardized sorting workshop.
The district government has provided significant support, organizing expert visits to offer hands-on guidance on techniques that ensure sustainable growth.
This year, the orchard began selling a small quantity of cherries. Next year, the trees will reach peak production, with each tree yielding 20 to 30 kilograms and an overall annual yield of about 7,500 kg. Through scientific management and phased expansion, the orchard aims to fill the local cherry industry gap and offer residents eco-friendly, high-quality cherries right at their doorstep.
