Dongli district in Tianjin is accelerating rural vitalization by building a modern agricultural system rooted in local products, technology adoption, and integrated development.
Through a tailored approach, the district has strengthened local flagship agricultural brands. Huantuo tomatoes, grown in distinctive clay-rich soil and abundant sunlight, have gained national recognition. Huzhangzhuang grapes, marketed under a registered collective trademark, now span more than 10 varieties across 23 hectares, generating over 9 million yuan ($1.29 million) in collective village income in 2024. Caiyuanzi golden pears, known for their stable quality and sweetness, received national green food certification in 2025 and are distributed nationwide.
Technology plays a central role in boosting productivity and quality. Smart greenhouses, remote monitoring systems, and improved soil treatment have increased yields by around 15 percent in some areas. Investments in modern facilities, machinery, and irrigation systems are helping farms move toward standardized and scalable production.
Dongli is also promoting the integration of agriculture with processing, tourism, and e-commerce. Tomato festivals, fruit-picking experiences, rural tourism sites, and online sales platforms have flourished. In 2024 alone, related agri-tourism projects attracted over 160,000 visitor trips and generated more than 3 million yuan in revenue.
Supported by strong organizations and cooperative models, Dongli district is helping farmers access markets more effectively and share in value-chain growth, laying a solid foundation for sustained rural development.
