Tianjin's Dongli district hosted the 8th China Medical Devices Design & Entrepreneurship Competition from Oct 11 to 12, along with a conference on the medical device innovation ecosystem, showcasing the achievements of companies based in the Dongli Economic Development Zone.

Enterprises from the zone, including Zdeer and Merit Medtech, showcased their latest innovations. At the same event, five firms joining the Tianjin Research Institute for Advanced Medical Device Innovation in the development zone signed strategic cooperation agreements with the institute.

Among the highlights, Chinese healthcare startup Zdeer launched its upgraded bone-conduction hearing aids, which combine advanced technology with affordable pricing, challenging foreign technology monopolies. Since establishing in Dongli in 2023, Zdeer has expanded to multiple production and R&D centers, filed over 3,600 patents, and now holds 35 medical device registration certificates.

The Dongli Economic Development Zone has been actively fostering innovation through comprehensive platforms for R&D, pilot testing, manufacturing, marketing, application services, and financing.

Its 210,000-square-meter international medical device industrial park has attracted over 80 enterprises across the industry chain.

In 2024, industrial output from the park grew 52.7 percent, maintaining strong momentum in early 2025.

According to Tian Min, director of the zone's investment promotion department, new companies are preparing to apply for several world-first and China-first innovation registration certificates, as the zone continues to introduce policies that promote high-quality development within the medical device industry.
