Ⅰ. Geographic advantages
As one of four districts around the city, Dongli district is located between downtown Tianjin and the core region of the Binhai New Area, covering an area of 478 square kilometers. It is a key economic function area connecting Tianjin’s central urban area and the Binhai New Area.
Ⅱ. Resources
1. Convenient transportation. Tianjin Binhai International Airport is located in Dongli district. It only takes half an hour to drive from Dongli district to Tianjin port. The district is fully covered by urban rail and traffic networks.
2. A diversity of technological resources. More than half of Tianjin's scientific research institutions are in Dongli district. It has more than 20 provincial-level scientific research institutions, such as the Tianjin Research Institute for Advanced Equipment, Tsinghua University and China Automotive Technology & Research Center Co., Ltd., as well as over 60 municipal-level institutes and other branch institutions. The district has established a university-region collaborative base with Tsinghua University and carried out in-depth cooperation with more than 40 universities such as Peking University, Southeast University, Nankai University and Tianjin University.
3. Distinctive industries. Dongli district has formed an industrial pattern led by the automotive technology, intelligent manufacturing, biological medicine, new materials and modern service industries, represented by enterprises such as China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., the Tianjin Intelligent and Connected Vehicle Industry Research Institute and Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (SIBET), and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
4. Environmental advantages. Dongli district has the beautiful Dongli Lake, covering an area of 8 square kilometers. The lake has rich geothermal resources and is a national 3A scenic area. The district is located along the middle reaches of the Haihe River. The district has a 146-square-km ecological barrier for preventing desertification. It has many ecological advantages for attracting high-end industries. Dongli district was named as the best ecotourism destination by China National Travel in 2018.
Ⅲ. Economic profile
In 2021, Dongli district's GDP achieved annual growth of 4.3 percent. Its general public budget revenue totaled 29.65 billion yuan. Its fixed-asset investment reached 148.35 billion yuan, an annual growth of 4.6 percent.
Ⅳ. Population and culture
Dongli district has taken the lead in completing the urbanization of the whole region. Currently, it administrates 11 sub-district offices and has 810,000 residents, of whom 370,000 are locally registered and 440,000 are migrants.
Ⅴ. Educational and medical resources
There are a number of hospitals in and around the district, such as Dongli Hospital and the Dongli Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are many primary and middle schools, as well as 11 universities in the district, including the Affiliated Primary School of Peking University, Tianjin No. 100 Senior School, Nankai University and Tianjin University.
